We take on projects sized to what our members can genuinely see through — including the part after the ribbon is cut.
How a project gets chosen
A project reaches the club through a member prepared to lead it. It is discussed, costed, and put to the board. Three tests decide it:
- A real need, identified by the people affected rather than assumed on their behalf.
- A member who will own it from first survey to final handover.
- A maintenance answer. Who looks after it in year three? A water plant nobody services is worse than no water plant, because it also spent the money that would have bought one.
Polio
Rotary began the fight against polio in 1979 and has been at it ever since, alongside the WHO, UNICEF, the CDC, the Gates Foundation and national governments. India was certified polio-free in 2014 after a campaign in which Indian Rotarians played a central part. Surveillance and immunisation continue, because the disease returns wherever attention lapses.
